Only one person in all the work knows that Jimmie Dale is also the notorious safe-cracker, The
Grey Seal, whose calling card is a gummed diamond-shaped grey sticker (or seal). And that
person, the mysterious woman called the Tocsin is blackmailing Jimmie into doing acts of
kindness and nobility - - using his powers of safe-cracking to prevent further crimes!
