What This Site is About
The Model Aircraft Museum Web Site is dedicated to presenting model aircraft that I have built throughtout the years. I intend to add more aircraft as time permits, but one has to start somewhere. This site present some of the model aircraft from my collection, along with notes about the actual aircraft, and some notes about things I learned or encountered while building, or refurbishing the model. In addition, there is a section on general techiques that I now use when buidling an aircraft model.
Yes, in the preceding section, I did say refurbishing. Most model aircraft in my collection are over 10 years old, and were left in another's care for 10 years, so in many cases some refurbishing is in order.
What This Site Does Not Cover
This site does not get into the specifics of how to assemble and detail plastic models. There are several terrific sites out there that cover this in great detail, and I did not want to duplicate their efforts. Links to some of these great sites can be found on my Model Related Links page.
Site Background
I currently have about 60 model aircraft, all 1/48 scale. All but two were built in during 1983-1988. Most were built between May 1983 - August 1987, with the Mi-24 Hind and MiG-29 built during May - August 1988 while on break from my first year in college. I then took a 10 year haitus from model airplane building, moved away from home to go to college, began my professional career, and managed to build 12 model cars (at 1/24 scale they are smaller and they travel easier!). I returned to model aircraft in January 1998 building an Su-25 Frogfoot. I returned to my parent's apartment carefully wrapped my models in plastic freezer bags (to contain any parts that might break in transit), loaded then into rigid cardboard boxes loaded with peanuts, and then into my Astro van, and made the 1000 mile trek to my own home. Remarkably, any damage was limited to a few broken-off propellers, antenna, fuel tanks, bombs, and other easy-to-reattach parts. Most made the trip intact. After completing an F-84F Thunderstreak that went unfinished for 12 yeas, I decided to combine my desire to create a web site with my passion for aircraft to create the Model Aircraft Museum.
