Familiar (pet): Ian owns a tawny screech owl named Angus.  Angus is loyal and reliable, but can be a little lazy sometimes.

Appearance: Ian was rather scrawny as a child, but he has grown up to be 6 feet (183 cm) tall and fairly muscular.  He has shaggy, sandy-blond hair and his motherís blue eyes.  Ian can often be seen smiling and laughing with his friends.

Personality: Without a doubt, Ian's two strongest assets are loyalty and honesty; when he calls someone a friend, he is a friend for life, and if he makes a promise, he'll keep it ó no matter what it takes.  Ian is a friendly, light-hearted guy who loves making people smile.   Students and teachers alike know Ian to be a very dependable, helpful young man.  He usually likes to play things by the book, but he can be convinced to take risks or bend the rules a bit if the situation calls for it.  He believes very strongly in equality of all people and loves to help others, which is why he wants to become a healer.

Likes: Ian loves Quidditch; he plays as a chaser on his house team, and is a supporter of the Pride of Portree.  He likes to go sailing on Loch Shiel.  At Hogwarts, he particularly enjoys participating in Care of Magical Creatures, Herbology, and Charms (especially healing charms).

Dislikes: Ian canít stand people who are selfish, cheat, or lie for their own personal gain.  While he tries to cheer people up if they are feeling down, he gets frustrated with those who constantly wallow in self-pity.

History: Ian is the illegitimate child of Maggie MacLeod of the respected pureblood clan MacLeod, and Marcus MacAlister, the head of the Department of Mysteries at the Ministry of Magic.  Maggie and Ian live in a small house on the shores of Loch Shiel, near Glenfinnan, Scotland.  Marcus has not seen Maggie since he found out she was pregnant because he didnít want his wife to find out about his affair.  Ian has never met his father and wants more than anything to have a father that will love him and be proud of him.  Before having children of his own, Ian's Uncle Scott was much like a father to him in many ways; having opened his own healing practice in Portree, Scott MacLeod is one reason Ian became interested in the profession.

Ian received his letter from Hogwarts and, like his mother before him, was sorted into Hufflepuff.  Though he struggled at times with certain classes Ian worked hard to get high marks in school.  In his fifth year, Ian joined the Quidditch team as a chaser.  It was through the team that he gained his closest friends. One such friend was Fluer Vanderloo, the teamís seeker, just one year younger than he.  She and Ian got along quite well, and over time Ian realized that he felt more strongly about her.  He was afraid of saying anything, however, for fear of ruining the friendship they had.  One night during his sixth year, Ian met Fluer unexpectedly in the common room, and as the two talked they eventually revealed that each one had a crush on the other.  The two have been dating ever since.

Parents: Maggie MacLeod is kind, outgoing, and usually optimistic and is a loving mother to Ian.  She graduated from Hogwarts as a Hufflepuff and met Marcus MacAlister shortly thereafter.  She gave birth to Ian at the age of twenty.  Marcus refused to have anything to do with her as soon as he heard about her pregnancy, and although Maggie has dated some men since that time, she is still unmarried. Ian is very close to his mother and tends to be protective of her around any men she dates.

Other Relatives: Ianís grandparents, Duncan and Aileen MacLeod, live near Portree, which is on the Isle of Skye.  Ian often goes to visit them.  He is especially close to his grandfather, who taught him to play Quidditch and to sail.

Besides Maggie, Duncan and Aileen had three other children: Scott, the eldest, Evie, and Andrew.  Scott is married to Cora and has three young children.  Both Evie and Andrew are unmarried.
