Our Patriots Theme Songs '99
As you may have learned from the Rules Page or history, the creation of a Patriotic Song is part of the weekly activity. Each week my guest and I rewrite the lyrics to popular songs and sing these songs which are intended to have little basis in reality and lots of inundation with enthusiasm! In the past the songs have belonged to some theme for the season and represented a particular genre of music. This season there are no limits save that the guests are expected to have a reason in their selection - which may well lead to some tales here as well.

[This time it is coincidence that I've chosen a Show Tune - this song is a tribute to Dave Bohnet - a fine friend who formerly joined me on the trips to Foxboro. Dave has since moved to Arizona and I miss our annual sojourn to the Fox. During the first year of songs, "Football Carols," Dave produced a variation of this gem. I've revised it in his honor and because it is appropriate. I love fall football mornings and afternoons - they are amongst my favorite things.]
White stripes on green Fields and crisp autumn morningsBarbecues burning and bottle tops turning
Madden 2000 and kickoff returning
Ty Law on defense and Bruschi of course
Me and Jose will shout til we are hoarse
When the world doubts --- says were all done --- claims well finish last
Well just keep believing each game can be won - with merely a Bledsoe pass!
Young Peyton Manning - crushed by a Blitzer
Israel flying "you dont know what hits ya!"
Willie gives pressure - from the outside
For Indy theres simply no place you can hide!
Tunas Jets losing - Pats open at the Fox
Its even been fun watching our Red Sox!
The battle's on - we are leading the race
When Indy is finished well be in first place
When the world doubts --- says were all done --- claims well finish last
Well just keep believing each game can be won with merely a Bledsoe pass!
[In 1996 the theme for our songs was "Going to the 'Show Tunes' and as you may recall, '96 was just such a result. In honor of said result, I'm selecting the same starting song I did three years ago. Selecting the song Camelot from the Broadway Show "Camelot." Let's hope the magic works again - for a rational guy I'm awfully superstitious... when it's fun anyhow!]
Its true, its true
The world has made it clear
This team is going nowhere - for this year! - Posh!
The Pats were picked to finish on the top here
When last years squad was ready for the show
Now healthy once again weve all come back here
To Foxboro!
Yet now were told this team should just surrender
They have no chance of getting to the Show
I say well see the truth come this September
In Foxboro!
Foxboro, Foxboro
I know they say it is bizarre
But in Foxboro, Foxboro
Thats how conditions are
Drew Bledsoe still stands tall in his return now
While Glenn reminds them all hes not near done
The defense wont let go
Theyre hungry for the show
As fans begin the dance tonight right here in Foxboro!
Foxboro, Foxboro
Theyre sure to give the fan base cause
Cuz in Foxboro, Foxboro
The picks are all Ty Laws!
Though Johnson will be missed at the Mike spot
And Edwards loss a shame we all regret
Faulk will let you know
And Big Kat soon will show
That theres happy ever aftering right here in Foxboro!
Donna conspired w/ Zip to produce the first Guest Song of the year. She chose Paul Simon's "50 Ways to Leave Your Lover" - an ominous choice for Zip's Girl! Her Patriotic purpose in the selection? Ask her I can't ever figure out a woman! The song is a fine short and sweet tune - enjoy!
50 Ways to Beat the Cowboys
The problem was all the injuries I say to you
Winning is easy when your Quarterback is Drew
Though it's preseason we have Dallas to destroy...
There must be 50 ways to beat the Cowboys
A long bomb would do - Drew
Haul it in again Glenn
Don't be too sweet, Pete
Just listen to me!
Run don't walk Faulk
Go on the Attack Big Kat
D is the key Bruschi
Just win it for me!
