Although the Kilrathi Jalthi was an effective attack craft due to it's heavy gun loadout,
it's relative lack of maneuverability and durability made it ineffective for heavy
Combat Air Patrol or combatting more nimble fighters. Realizing these shortcomings,
Kilrathi engineers devised the Gratha, a heavily armed, maneuverable craft specifically
designed to take a large amount of damage and still remain functional. Able to outclass
the Confederation Raptor in terms of sheer maneuverability, it wasn't until the
Rapier class was put into service that the Confederation had an effective counter
to this excellent attack craft. The Gratha remained in service until 2668, when the
majority of them were destroyed in the Battle of Terra.
