Book review: "Just Jessie" by Lisette Belisle
Silhouette Special Edition
October 1997 "Woman to Watch"

Stone's End is a farm that has been in Jessie Carlisle's family for 200 years. It has
supported generations of hard working, land loving Carlisles and Jessie is no exception.
The difference is that Jessie was raised in a home without laughter and little affection. All
she has ever known is the hard work of farm life, the heartache of loss, and the loneliness
of missed childhood. Even though Jessie can't afford to look beyond tomorrow, deep
down she believes that life is what you make it so do the best you can. Although her life's
experiences are limited, Jessie feels something is about to change. it just has to!

Ben Harding has turned into a hard man with a tortured soul. Trying to escape the past
has kept Ben moving from town to town with no purpose, no plan, and no life. He can't
escape his nightmares, no matter how far he runs. He still hears the screams, feels the
helplessness, experiences the devastating loss, over, and over, and over.

From the first moment they met, Jessie and Ben collide in a battle of wills and
determination. Ben is determined to hide from life, Jessie is determined to live it. Through
her strength, innocence, and love, Jessie shows Ben beauty where he only knew despair
and pulls his soul from the depth of darkness. Though love does not conquer all, it can
certainly make their lives easier to bear.

Slated as the first book in the "Stone's End" series, "Just Jessie" is also Lisette's first
published work of romantic fiction. This book is recommended to people who like a
traditional romance with a touch of realism.
