NAPIER, William W.; Private. Enlisted on March 21, 1862 at Cheraw by Lt. W.H. Coit. Served with the battery in every campaign through the entire war and was present at every muster. From January 1863 until he was paroled at Appomattox, he served as teamster for the Palmetto Battery. 35 years old, 5'-10" tall, fair complexion, blue eyes, and dark hair.
NESBITT, M.C.; Private. Enlisted on March 22,1862, at Sumter, by Lt. W.H. Coit. In Jan. "&" Feb. 1863, he is noted as being "EOD as teamster". Saw action at Gettysburg and was captured on July 8,1863 in Maryland and was sent to Point Lookout Prison. He was listed by his captors as being "23 years old, 5'-8", with light complexion, blue eyes, and light hair. In Mar. "&" Apr. 1864, he is listed as "paroled prisoner on furlough." He returned to duty from parole camp in June 1864. In Jan. "&" Feb.1865, he is listed as being "on extended furlough of 30 days by Med. Ex. Board from Jany. 25, his home since fallen within enemy lines."

PACE, William H.; Private. Enlisted on April 30, 1862, at Sumter, by Captain Garden. Saw action at 2nd Manassas and Sharpsburg. On October 27, 1862, he was sent to the hospital at Winchester, Va. Died of pneumonia at Lynchburg on December 12, 1862. His widow, Elizabeth Susan Pace, received 6 months and 12 days worth of pay @ $12/month, and clothing allotment of $25, for a total of $101.80. In Captain Garden's letter to the widow, he said, "Mr. Pace was a soldier whose faithful discharge of every duty had won our respect "&" esteem "&" in his death my Command has suffered a severe loss."

POSTON, James; Private. Enlisted March 15, 1862, at Cheraw, by Lt. W.H. Coit. Served at 2nd Manassas, Sharpsburg, and Suffolk. Sent to the hospital at Culpeper on June 8, 1863, complaint "Debilitas". Returned to duty June 23, 1863. Served in every subsequent campaign and was present at Appomattox. 22 years old, 5'-4" tall, dark complexion, blue eyes, and dark hair.
PRICE, Asa; Private. Enlisted November 3, 1864, at Columbia, by Major Green. Present until paroled at Appomattox. 42 years old, 5'-10" tall, fair complexion, blue eyes, and dark hair.
PRINGLE, Samuel McBride; 1st Lt. Was the son of Elijah and Rebecca Pringle. His parents were farmers who had a considerable amount of real and personal property. After receiving his primary education in Sumter, Samuel studied for the ministry at Furman College in Greenville. In December 1860 the entire student body left school to join the army. Samuel joined a unit of infantry being formed in Sumter called the "Sumter Volunteers". This later was designated D Co., 2nd S.C. Regiment of Infantry. In this unit he saw action at 1 st Manassas. After his first year ended, he was appointed Junior 1st Lieutenant in Captain Garden's Battery of Artillery. He was with the battery at 2nd Manassas. At Sharpsburg, on September 17, 1862, he was struck in the left leg by a cannonball which essentially tore his leg off. He was operated on but died of his wounds on September 23, 1862. Buried at Winchester, Va.

REED, William Moultrie; Private. Enlisted on April 8, 1862, at Sumter by Captain Garden. At Gettysburg was No. 5 on the howitzer crew that went forward in support of the great charge. Furloughed for 21 days from 23 January, 1865. Reported to Hospital at Florence, S.C., 13 Feby 1865. Was at Sumter on recuperative leave when Potter attacked the town on April 9, 1865. Served as a rifleman in the small band of Confederate defenders at the Battle of Dingle's Mill.
REID, George Harvey; Private. Enlisted on April 8, 1862, at Sumter, by Captain Garden. Served with the battery at 2nd Manassas, Sharpsburg, and Suffolk. Just after the Suffolk campaign, on May 9, 1863, Reid contracted Typhoid Fever, and was sent to the hospital Admitted to Gen'1 Hospital, Howard's Grove, Richmond, on May 30, 1863. He survived this usually fatal disease, and returned to duty on July 14, 1863. Took part in every campaign in which the battery served and was present at every muster until paroled at Appomattox. 25 years old, 5'-8" tall, dark complexion, dark eyes, and dark hair.
REID, James Merrick; Private. Enlisted on April 18, 1862, at Columbia, by Captain Garden. Furloughed at Columbia on June 6, 1862, but was "present" on the Aug. 1-Oct 1, 1862 muster rolls. In Jan. "&" Feb. 1863 is listed as "EOD as carpenter". Was No. 6 on the howitzer crew that went forward in support of the Great Charge at Gettysburg. Present at Appomattox. 30 years old, 5'-9" tall, dark complexion, dark hair, and dark eyes.
REID, T. Golden; Corporal/Sergeant. Enlisted on April 8, 1862, at Sumter, by Captain Garden. Promoted from 1st Corporal to 5th Sergeant on July 5,1863. Furloughed for 20 days on December 22nd, 1863. Present at all musters and present at Appomattox. 28 years old, 5'-5" tall, fair complexion, dark eyes, and light hair.

Present at every muster and took part in every campaign in which the battery was engaged until July 3, 1863. On this day he served as No. 2 on the howitzer crew that went forward in support of Pickett's charge at the Battle of Gettysburg. He was struck in the back by an artillery round and died on July 7, 1863.
