Event Rules
I. General:
- Event registration is on an individual basis, not by unit. We
reserve the right to request a photograph of you in uniform, if
none of the evnt staff is familiar with you or your impression.
- Absolutely NO WALK ONS allowed. Substitutions will be permited
up to 2 weeks before the event.
- All participants must register, pay the registration fee, and
sign any and all required waivers.
- All participants must abide by the clothing and authenticity
guidelines established for their impression.
- ALL military reenactors must comply with weapons safety
inspections. No exceptions. NO powder or percussion caps are to be
kept on your person.
- All participants must wear appropriate period clothing during
the event hours. (6:00 am &endash; 5:30 pm Wednesday, Thursday,
Friday, Saturday, Sunday &endash; April 14 &endash; 18, 2003).
- The event hosts and organizing committee reserve the right to
ask that anachronistic or inappropriate items be removed, adjusted
or replaced. (See list of forbidden items and behaviors, below).
- All military participants are encouraged to remain in
first-person impressions appropriate to the event at Ft. Moultrie
while talking with the public. Visitor's may ask a soldier to
remove his "hat" literally and figuratively to discuss items in
the present. Participants asked to function as third person
interpreters / docents for the general public are exempt for this
regulation.
- Please refrain from discussing obviously modern topics like
cars, movies, the Internet, "the hobby", etc., within earshot of
others. Engaging in disruptive or inappropriate dicussions with
the public will not be tolerated of any participant.
- Civilian participation is limited and by invitation only.
Civilian participants should stay in character throughout the
active event times to be designated by the Civilian Coordinators,
unless they (1) are functioning as third person interpreters /
docents for the general public.
- Living history and public education are emphasized at this
event. First person portrayals should be maintained (within
reason) during the spectator hours and during any other designated
time specified by the hosts. No one is expected to be perfect, but
honest attempts are required.
- Direction of all military scenarios, activity schedules and
enforcement of military authenticity standards are the
responsibility of the event military coordinators who reserve the
right of authoritative oversight in these matters.
- Direction of all civilian scenarios, activity schedules and
authenticity standards are the responsibility of the event
civilian coordinators who reserve the right of authoritative
oversight in these matters.
- NO participant should display rank unless specifically
requested to do so. We will form two companies based on the
complete registration numbers, and assign NCO and Officer duties.
If you desire to portray Rank please indicate such on the
Registration form.
- All individuals should be prepared to sign a Release Form from
the Hunley Commission for Participation in the Procession upon
arrival at Ft. Moultrie.
II. Restrictions:
ALL Participants MUST read and understand the following
prohibitions in regard to clothing, equipment, camps and conduct at
this event BEFORE you register!!
- NO digging of unauthorized trenches, and/or firepits, without
specific permission.
- NO cutting and/or felling of trees without advance warning and
approval.
- NO civilians sleeping in military camps. No civilians are to
be in military camps without passes!
- NO campfires anywhere within the walls of Ft. Moultrie and
outside the walls ONLY in designated areas.
- NO women detectable portraying men.
- NO women portraying military "laundresses" or cooks travelling
with the army, or undocumented vivandiere impressions or
prostitute impressions.
- NO vehicles in camp...ever; Due to the limited parking at Ft.
Moultrie we will shuttle participants to thei vehicles as needed.
- Military camps are expected to look like actual garrison camps
in the 1860's This means:
- NO visible coolers in camps.
- NO non-period cookware, including speckleware.
- NO plastic bags or plastic flooring.
- NO two piece camp chairs in camps or other anachronistic
furnishings.
- NO non-period snack foods.
- NO modern food packaging including beverage cans.
- On the other hand the following items of proper construction,
may be appropriate:
- Camp furniture
- Cots
- Candle Lanterns
- Carpets
- Military uniforms must conform with Ft. Moultrie guidelines.
- NO visible modern underwear or other visible modern /
anachronistic articles of clothing or personal accoutrements /
effects. NO obviously modern hairstyles on men (mowhawks,
dreadlocks, etc).
- NO smoking cigarettes within sight of spectators or other
participants; NO smoking cigarettes within the walls of Ft.
Moultrie.
- NO loud, rowdy or inappropriate behavior, especially between
taps and reveille.
- NO illegal substances or other illegal behavior.
- Remember, we will be within the walls of historic Fort
Moultrie, that has served this country and State for over 150
years. You are expected to treat it with the respect and dignity
of a National Treasure!
