In April 2004 the Palmetto Living History Association will portray a company of Confederate Soldiers called the Dixon Guards. This company will do living history in historic Fort Moultrie for several days, and will participate in the funeral ceremonies for the crew of the H. L. Hunley. The Dixon Guards will be the only group authorized to do living history at Ft. Moultrie, and will be the only infantry group authorized by the National Parks Service and the Hunley Commission to perform Living History at Fort Moultrie.
This is a solemn occasion, and our appearance and conduct will reflect that. If you want to be a part of this, we invite you to join us, but participation in the Dixon Guards will be limited to 75 persons, and there are some fairly strict guidelines for those wishing to be a part of this unique experience.
The guidelines are not meant to be exclusionary, and we will do our best to work with everyone who desires to be a part of this, but please read all the rules and guidelines before sumitting your registration.
In order to help those who may not have all the required gear we are working with several high quality suppliers to provide goods at special rates to members of the Dixon Guards. Ben Tart has already agreed to give a very good price on frock coats, and arrangements are in progess with other suppliers as well. Details on these will be posted soon.
Please note that participation in the Living History component is required in order to take part in the funeral. Two rations a day will be provided for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, and those who stay over on Sunday will be provided for as well.
We anticipate a high demand for spaces in the Dixon Guards, so we recommend sending in your application as soon as possible. View the rules, download the files, send your application, and then join us in April!
