Eucharistic Apostles of Divine Mercy

Eucharistic Apostles of Divine Mercy are forming cell groups around the world to study and serve together. Under the guidance of a priest and spiritual director, each group studies Church teaching, the Sacred Scriptures, the Catechism, the Diary of Sr. Faustina, and other applicable writings of the Saints. Prayers of Eucharistic adoration, the Rosary, the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, and group worship are all parts of our lives! The balance to the interior life is works of mercy - each group discerns its outreach to the unwanted of society in its own area.

Meet some of our apostolate

sisters and brothers!

Santar¾m, Portugal

Fr. Manuel Borges oversees the activity of this community and they have assisted him in supporting a day home for the elderly in the community and child care. An assisted living center for the elderly is established also, and they are collecting funds to build a center in Santarem for the entire community. This group helped to host a large Eucharistic congress in honor of the 750th anniversary of the Miracle of Santarem. The late Bishop of Santarem welcomed us warmly and gave us his official blessing last April.

Western Samoa

This community under the care of Cardinal Pio Taofinu'u has helped to distribute medical supplies to the poor and disadvantaged of the islands.

Carol Ah Chong (at left with Cardinal Pio) has overseen the development of Eucharistic Apostles in Apia, Western Samoa and in the neighboring island of Savaii. The group works closely with T.H.O.R.N., Kristin Taylor's outreach ministry.

After reading the rules and constitution of E.A.D.M., the cardinal expressed his pleasure and has been incorporating them into an order of brothers that recently started in the country, the Missionaries of St. Joseph. As these brothers go out across the world to do missionary work, they will be hoping to get lay involvement in spreading the message of mercy and of the True Presence.

Cardinal Pio has granted the Eucharistic Apostles of Divine Mercy status as a Lay Association. The members of the group have been faithful to the prayers, teaching of the Church, the Eucharist, and the care of the poor in this widespread diocese.

An excerpt from a letter by Leotogi Siemsen, a leader of one of the groups: "One old woman told us she was Catholic since birth, but now this is the first time she understands some of the catholic Faith teachings covered by us: Eucharist, Mother of Mercy, Virtues, etc." There have been several miracles and testimonies of conversions that are really exciting!

Ghana, West Africa

At the invitation of (the late) Bishop Charles Sam of the diocese of Takoradi, Ghana, our members visited this diocese and with the help of many faithful friends have established groups to spread the Message of Divine Mercy.

Rev. John Adade of Eikwe, Ghana has constructed a small facility for his group there to work and study. They have requested not only materials but assistance in helping the poor.

Although the material needs of the people were obvious, the depth of their spirituality is just as apparent. The Holy Masses are very Spirit-filled, and the love of the Lord leaves an unforgettable impression.

Fr. Adade told us that he had been praying for two years on how to tie in the gift of the Eucharist to the Corporal works of Mercy, saying, "Go tell your group that Jesus Christ does answer prayers!"

Pharmaceuticals are being shipped to the Bishop, who will distribute them to a doctor's group (Catholic Doctor's Guild) that will be doing volunteer work for the very poor. In addition, a freezer has been purchased and the group sells goods to maintain their self-sufficient status.

Also at the request of Bishop Sam, E.A.D.M. has conducted a clothing drive and sent a container of clothing and shoes for his people in early 1998.

Fr. Adade writes, "I have not yet received the boxes of clothing you have sent to me, but I hope to get them soon. They will be very beneficial to the sick and most disabled people and the poorest in my community who are always queuing at my door-steps asking for all kinds of assistance from me. Sometimes I can't hide my feeling so I let tears fall when I see some of such people. So the clothing is heartily welcomed and very laudable and noble gifts to my people… We are really itching for the Rosaries, Bibles and the spiritual Formation Books which you will send in January."

As Peter Eshun, the cathedral catechist so well expressed, "We are very grateful to you, as a tree planted by the riverside, our leaves will never fade, the seed that you have planted in Takoradi-Ghana is on good soil. We assure you that our branch would yield more fruits and let people know and feel the Mercy of Christ by spreading the message of Divine Mercy."

The love of the Eucharist is central to the revival going on in Ghana. "I thank God for you because through the Eucharistic Apostles of Divine Mercy, my thirst for spreading the Good News of the Eucharist is being fulfilled. My dream is coming into a reality…I am ever prepared to promote the aims and the objectives of the Eucharistic Apostles of Divine Mercy in Ghana, and be assured of my/our prayerful support. Pray for me too." (Father Peter Twumasi, St. Joseph's Parish)
