A fast, superficial but enjoyable mystery, this Eve Dalas adventure has the typical elements of romance and investigation, as well as an intriguing plot.

Genre: Mystery (Near Future, Romance, Police Procedural)

Synopsis: Set about 60 years in the future, not much has changed in this somewhat superficial portrayal of the New York City.

A murder in a hotel owned by Roarke, the husband of New York Homocide officer Eve Dallas, sparks an intense investigation. The signs indicate a developing campaign by a skilled and very successful criminal, possibly as a plot against Roarke. As Eve battles old nightmares and jurisdictional squabbles, her assistant's unhappiness and Roarke's friends from his illegal past, the deadly plot seems to head towards a major event.

Full Review: The mystery is very light on scientific or procedural plausibility, but has a fast, interesting plot. The villains are ruthless and intelligent, and their plot ambitious, if over-elaborate. For those enjoying the personalitites and complicated crime capers, along with the dash of predictable but well-written passion, this installment in the series is quite enjoyable.

Overall: 5.5; Plot: 6; Characters: 5; Style: 5.5; World-building: 5; Originality: 5.5;
