This at times too self-consciously humorous look at quaint characters, moderately succeeds in entertaining those looking for a cosy, unambitious mystery.

Synopsis: A glance at the quaint and occasionally sordid goings-on at a small, Northern lakeside town, brings the veteran reporter Qwilleran and his two Siamese to Fishport. This tiny resort is full of rumors surrounding the periodic sigthings of "visitors" from outer space, the mysterious disappearance of a hiker, and the coming of a fancy new restaurant run by two ex-Floridians. Qwill's, Koko's and the readers' curiosity are tweaked by the rumors, intense emotional undercurrents, and the very early reactions of greed and anger.
Full Review: This is an unabridged recording of The Cat Who Saw Stars. This abridged version is rather abrupt, but may be the most appropriate format for this novel, as many of the plot developments in the book are rather lacking in suspense. In this shortened version, one still gets a full look at the quaint, exaggeratedly eccentric characters in the town, as well as slowly revealed eveidence of a crime.
While entertaining and pleasant, the novel, as many of its predecessors in the series, uses a somewhat strained and pointless plot, a plethora of unlikely coincidences, and only mildly amusing humor. The lack of suspense and low emotional involvement make this book only marginally entertaining.
Overall: 5; Plot: 4.5; Characters: 5; Style: 5.5; World-building: 6; Originality: 5;
