Full Review: This novel is a sequel, and though can be read on its own, would benefit greatly from being read in sequence. Alucius is more mature in this volume, with some level of authority and respect, although also with more enemies. Some secrets of the magic systems are revealed, and the battles become important not only to the small country of Iron Valleys, but to the larger world.
In general, the book follows its predecessor in its strengths and weaknesses. The plot is fast, and full of fighting, and the enemies are varied enough to keep the action interesting. The secondary characters are generally lightly sketched, but some of them are given enough exposure to become interesting. The adventure has little depth, but is enjoyable, original and entertaining enough to wish for a rapid sequel.
Overall: 6; Plot: 6; Characters: 5.5; Style: 5.5; World-building: 6; Originality: 6;
