Fine Tunings - 02/17/08
After a longtime, I made a couple of changes to the website.
I reduced the buffer size in real-audio streaming (applicable only to Music Categories link) and this should start the playing faster.
The complaints I receive from users are related either to the unavailability of the website or due to Real Player settings. As most of you may be aware, this website had been built to share my personal collection to the carnatic music lovers and not intended for any profit. I had optimized the cost for this effort as mimimal as possible. One of the issues are frequent/periodic change of IP address (which is done by my ISP). When that happens, some one manually has to restart the website and until then the website would be down. Unfortunately, I do not have a solution yet to restart automatically. Until then, you may have to live with this shortcoming.
The Real Player settings issue is something you, as an user, have to change in your side. Here is a Real player help link. Most of the problems might be either related to Firewall (e.g., ZoneAlarm) settings for Real Player (you must provide full access) and/or due to Proxy settings. The user-side problems are numerous, unique in nature, and are related to your computer environment (OS, browser, etc) and troubleshooting those would require a customer support staff which I do not see happening in the near future.

Siva
Temporarily Unavailable - 05/29/06
The Nada Anuboothi website will be down between Jun. 10th and Jul. 22nd, 2006 as we are going out of town. Sorry for the inconvenience.
If you have not already visited, you will find a wealth of carnatic concert music, and that too downloadable, at sangeethapriya.org. I hope, sites like these will fill in the void that NA site might otherwise create.
Thanks for your continued support,
Siva
Veena Book - 05/29/06
Those who are interested to learn more about Veena, in depth, are highly recommended to read the book, "Veena in the Theory, Practice, and Experiment in Karnatak Music" by Dr. K. Raghavendra Rao & Dr. M.K. Jaishree Prasad. Dr. Jaishree is a good friend of ours and is located in the Chicago north-west suburban area. She teaches Veena and Vocal music to interested students.
Click the Veena link to learn more about the book and Dr. Jaishree's contact details.

Introducing Google Ad - 05/11/05
Introducing Google Ad on certain pages in the Nada Anuboothi website, as a trial run. If there is enough revenue stream, it may help to get a dedicated connection for NA.

Siva

"Music Categories" Restored - 05/05/04
Most awaited "Music Categories" link has been restored!!!
Some users behind the firewall may have trouble listening to this link as it is now listening in port 8080. Those users are encouraged to use Project Music Vault link, which is listening in the regular port 80.
Songs from Dikshitar Kritis page have been restored as well.
This step completes the long-winded restoration after our relocation to California. We sincerely appreciate your patience during the restoration and we hope to provide you continued enjoyment of the divine experience of the Indian classical music.
Regards,
Siva & Uma
Website Partly Resurrected - 03/29/04
We were successfully able to resurrect Project Music Vault (PMV) link and tested with a firewall. It is available for the public (needs registration).
The Music Categories link & songs from Dikshitar Kritis page are still under testing with the new environment. They may take another 2 - 3 weeks, as originally expected, to get restored.
Even though the website is not completely restored, the PMV will still give most of the website's features. Continue enjoying the Indian music treasure...

Siva & Uma
"Let the world enjoy the bliss what I had..." - Tirumular
Website was hacked - 03/25/04
One another bad news. The website computer was affected with a WORM virus few days ago and we cleaned it up effectively. Also, as a preventive measure, we are beefing up the computer security and in the process testing.
It will likely take another 2 - 3 weeks to test thoroughly and make the site available for the general public.
I am sure, you will appreciate our effort. Even though it is bit more wait on your part, it is better than not having Nada Anuboothi permanently due to the similar attacks in future.

Siva
Problem with the Website - 03/15/04
I have couple of complaints about Nada Anuboothi website as not working. In my local machine it works fine, but not from remote machine - that defeats the very purpose of this existance.
The issue appears to be related to the IP address binding in the new environment and am further investigating the cause.
I will put it up as soon as this issue is resolved. Just hang in there and sorry for putting you through premature jubliation...
Regards,
Siva
Website Re-established - 03/14/04
We want to share a good and most awaited news: Nada Anuboothi website has been successfully re-established in the new environment.
This website, now hosted with new hardware and the DSL connection, but both of them were not with significant upgrades from their older counterparts. Listeners may experience some subtle improvements.
Project Music Vault link has been recreated as well, however, we were not able to load the registered user profile.
Enjoy the divine music...
Regards,
Siva & Uma
Relocation - 03/08/04
As we had mentioned earlier, we have relocated to California bay area and have been getting logistics to run the website. Although things are happening, they are taking time.
The harddrive crash, coupled with this delay, is like adding salt to the injury. Our goal is try to get, at least, the original Nada Anuboothi (Music Categories) link up and running and hoping to make it available in next 2 - 3 weeks.
All the Project Music Vault setup has to be recreated in the new harddrive, which may take some time. Until then, the PMV link will be down.
We have received several e-mails asking for the status and volunteering for help. We understand your desire and appreciate your patience. The best help those who are willing could provide is to join project_music_vault Yahoo group and setup the netjuke.
More to follow, stay tuned...
Regards,
Siva & Uma
Harddrive Crash - 11/30/03
Harddrive, which is running music files for NA websites, crashed 3 days ago and the site was down for the same reason.
We were able to restore only music files, luckily from the backup, and the original NA (Music Categories link) application.
All the Project Music Vault setup has to be recreated in the new harddrive, which may take some time. Until then, the PMV link will be down.
Also, one another FYI: We are planning to relocate in Dec '03/Jan '04 timeframe and there will be an interruption of this service for 1 - 2 months until we are settled down.
Regards,
Siva & Uma
Project Music Vault - PMV 1.0 Release - 07/03/03
After a long gap, here is some exciting news...
Please checkout the new release of PMV 1.0 release, from the leftside menubar Project Music Vault link, which now contains almost all the original Nada Anuboothi features, including Search by Raga, by Composer. Also added are God, Tala, Instrument, Language to some of the kritis.
It is neat to utilize Netjuke's capabilities, such as advanced searching, filtering, efficient browsing, playlists, in conjunction with enriched data for Indian classical music. Hope all of you enjoy.
One downside, though, for existing PMV users:
Since database/table structures and data were modified to support this release, I could not transfer the Playlists of the existing users, properly. You will notice that many of the entries got cross linked to something else. You may have to redo your playlists. Sorry for the trouble and hope the additional features' benefits outweigh this inconvenience.
I am planning to post the zip file of modified PHP files to PMV Yahoo!group shortly, for other to apply in their local instance.
Another quick note on PHP: With spending just within one week I was able to make these changes. I think, doing it in Java would have taken atleast 3 - 4 months. I am still not sure, whether credit goes to PHP or the designers of the Netjuke - may be, to both.
Enough of my kutcheri, enjoy the rest from PMV.
Regards,
Siva
Project Music Vault - 0.1 Release - 02/26/03
I am glad to announce the launch of Project Music Vault's maiden release. An open source initiative, called Netjuke, made our effort much simpler.

Happy listening...

Open Request for Volunteers - Project Music Vault - 01/26/03
This is a new project just forming. The goal of this project is to collect and preserve non-copyrighted music recordings, preferably concert recordings of previous generation artists, electronically and to make them available online to listen and learn.
Over time there have been quite a number of listeners asked me if they can help in anyway on the Nada Anuboothi website. Now is the time. This project group is being formed, similar in lines of Apache.org, to achieve this dream. This project will be run as an open-source, community-managed, and not-for-profit.
In order to be open and community-managed, we may have to rely heavily on technologies that are open, namely Java, J2EE, etc.
I intend to put my music web server resources and my experience on J2EE architecture & project planning to this project.
Please visit project_music_vault Yahoo!group in order to know more about the project and also to join in the development activities.
Feel free to let me know if you can help in any other way which is
not listed.
I invite you all in this endeavor and I am sure, you will join hands
to make this dream come true.
Thanks,
D.L.Sivakumar

Facelift to Nada Anuboothi site - 10/26/02
My friend Yuri Gagarin (a.k.a. Sw. Jivan Aptakam) felt this site needs a facelift and has made these wonderful images and laid them out. We liked them at first instance itself and hope the same with our listeners too. He is an unique person and he did it just like that with out any request made. To know more about him, visit worldmegaproject.com.
Thanks to Yuri!

Problem in Multiple Selection Fixed - 08/16/02
The multiple song selection in Real One has been fixed (See the previous note for more details). However when you select multiple songs, now, it will bring up "Save As..." window, unlike earlier. You may use "Open the file..." option to avoid multiple steps of saving to a folder and opening the .ram file. There was not a perfect solution for this problem. Lesser evil among those options has been chosen.
Enjoy continued listening - Thanks!

Problem in Multiple Selection - 07/13/02
Many listeners have reported that after installing Real One player, they are not able to play multiple selections. However, the site still plays songs if they are individually selected. This site has been tested only with Real Player upto version 8 basic. We have not started testing with Real One yet, unfortunately, due to unavailability of the resources. We will let listeners know once the site is tested with Real One. In the mean time, you may want to use Real Player 8 basic to use multiple selection feature. Real Player 8 basic is obscurely kept in the www.real.com site to force you download Real One. You may follow the link of as a Windows95 user and you will find it.
Sorry for the inconvenience - Thanks!

Audio Site Working - 12/07/01
The program to update this website for dynamic IP address of the new DSL connection has been written. Though basic functionality works, not all parts of this site is fully functional. We hope it will be in few days time.
Enjoy both classical music site and Nada Anuboothi site. They are fully functional.
|
DSL Transition - 12/05/01
We have switched our DSL provider again. This time we are having more challenges as the new DSL provider does not provide a static IP address, which is needed to run a web server. We are working on a program to automatically update the IP address to Web Server configuration and to this web site. By having this workaround in place, you will be able to listen to music. We are trying to get this program done ASAP, possibly before this weekend.
We apologize for your disappointment, but are working to restore the audio site ASAP. Please do check back in few days and we expect your continued cooperation.
Thanks - Siva

Removing Download Area - 11/01/01
There have been several complaints recently in the past month from the listeners about choking the songs intermittently and too often. Two reasons for that:
1. Our DSL provider (DIRECTV) downgraded their 768KBPS SDSL service to 128/768KBPS ADSL. This change has been done to all the TELOCITY, which DIRECTV bought few months ago, users. This downgraded our server's throughput for listeners six-fold. To rectify this situation is beyond our control.
2. The download area has lot of mp3 files, most of them were downloaded from Sruthi-laya Yahoo group, that we volunteered to put up on our site after www.myplay.com ceased to accept Sruthi-laya members. This download is competing for the same resources that our listeners need. Until the time we find a higher/better bandwidth solution, we have decided to remove the download area from our site effective 11/01/01.
Many users have asked about downloading the songs featuring from our non-downloadable database. Our original intent was to provide listeners with the information and experience, but not to intentionally or unintentionally violate any copyright rules. We continue to hold that intention.
One Good news after all the bad news: We are restructuring our site with more information such as Ragamalika ragas, God, Sthala, Lyric details. In addition to the existing categories, we are adding Devotional Songs, Slokas, Old (very old) Tamil film music, Jugal bandhi, etc. The early-access of that site will be announced in 3rd week of Nov. 2001. Please check out and give your valuable feedback as always.
Thanks - Siva

Sorry - 08/27/01
We had been off to India for a month and our DSL ISP changed hands in the mean time which caused the music site to go down. There were numerous e-mails from the regular listeners of this web site asking for the reason. It is understandable in the prevailing dot.com trend. We are sorry for the anguish caused and try to communicate any long absence beforehand. Now the music web site is available for you to enjoy.
