Secure Security
By E.A. Green

We all want to feel secure. We want to feel secure in our homes and in our jobs. We put forth considerable effort trying to build some degree of financial security. We will even take out insurance policies to secure our investments. We consider it wise to take the necessary steps to protect ourselves, our families, and our property from loss.

Likewise, God has taken appropriate steps to provide security for His people...it is called Eternal Security! Eternal Security safe-guards God’s people from “missing out” on their heavenly home and inheritance! A biblical understanding of this subject gives us comfort and fortitude to persevere through the storms of adversity in life.

Not only is our heavenly home secure, but we are secured unto it! In contemplation of this theme, the apostle Paul seems almost to be wafted away by the grace of it all, saying. “I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” This friends, is secure security!

A fault of the modern religionist is their misdirected zeal to supplant the biblical teaching of Eternal Security, which is grounded in the Redemptive work of Christ, with a humanistic notion which is grounded in good works and deeds. Acts of charity and kindness have their rightful place and ought to be freely done to benefit others. However, it is an error to assume that ones' eternal status is earned or guaranteed by such deeds. Such a view is kin to raw Humanism which places man as the “Captain of his own fate, and Master of his own soul.” The obvious implication is that heaven is gained by good works. There are probably as many variations of this teaching as there are religious organizations. Each have their own variation to the theory, but they all have the same common denominator; some act or deed that one does will make the difference in their eternal destiny. This theory contains the unavoidable implication that one may be “saved” today but “lost” tomorrow. Such teaching affords no foundation or provision for real and enduring security for a troubled heart.

By contrast, there is real security and saving merit in the vicarious suffering and death of Christ. The vicarious work of Redemption was accomplished upon the cross. This work has special benefit to those for whom Jesus Christ represented. The resurrection of Christ is a constant witness that divine Justice has been satisfied and “God is well pleased for His righteousness sake”. Is.42:21
To the degree that our hearts and minds are established in the knowledge of God’s Righteousness we will experience stability and a sense of Secure Security in Him.
