A Breath Of Fresh Air

Two years ago, Lyn Roche authored Coping With Caring, published by award-winning Elder Books. A second book, Sharing The Care, has been completed and will be published in 1999. Lyn's first book has been called a creative survival manual offering down-to-earth techniques to simplify everyday life for stressed caregivers. Senior Times Magazine reads, "Coping With Caring is small enough to tuck in one's pocket, it can be pulled out when a friend is needed. A friend who will understand the demands as well as the joys of caregiving."

The books and a compassion for families affected by intense caregiving have led Lyn and her husband Bill to "go on the road" in their motor home presenting workshops to further uplift family caregivers. A common thread of concerns prompted them to create "A Breath Of Fresh Air" workshops for caregivers. This unique workshop is tailor-made to meet the challenges faced by primary caregivers in a supportive, non-technical manner. It is a place where those caring for a loved one can recharge, refuel, and relax—what Lyn and Bill call the necessary 3R's of healthy caregiving. Participants leave the two-hour workshop refreshed and armed with new tools, including a ten-page work book designed to help them be good themselves as well as their care recipients.

Lyn and Bill recently returned from their Spring/Summer Workshop Tour having presented their programs to the Wyoming Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association, The St. Croix Department of Aging— Hudson, Wisconsin, the Southwestern Missouri Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association, the Richfield United Methodist Church of Minneapolis, and the Franciscan Home of South Milwaukee.

The Roches invite your inquiries for itinerary and costs. They suggest workshops be sponsored by organizations who in turn seek community sponsors or receive grants. These sponsors do not generally charge family caregivers. Many in-service professional caregivers have attended these workshops as well, with their associate organizations underwriting them. Please call, write or fax.
