I was born and raised in California. I relocated to Texas in 1991 and made my home in the Tyler area 16 years. I moved to
San Antonio in 2008.
I have two brothers, 5 and 7 years older than me, who played drums and guitar respectively. When we were growing up they would
listen to and learn the hip music of the day. Consequently, as a little kid I was exposed to The Beatles, The Who and all
that historic music as it was happening. That had a profound impact on me. By the age of 8 I had my own turntable and a cool
little collection of 45s. So from a young age I was pretty plugged in musically.
Although I loved listening to music, I didn't do anything about playing it until age 12 when something I heard on the radio
forever changed my life. It was Gary Wright's "The Dream Weaver" (a spacey all-keyboard epic). Wow! I didn't know how I was
going to get there, but I wanted to be able to do THAT.
Our family was not dirt poor, but we didn't have much disposable income either. So there was no money to buy me an instrument.
Undaunted, I got some sort of beginners piano book, a 2X6 piece of scrap lumber and a magic marker. I drew a keyboard on
the piece of wood and learned fingerings and chords that way. It wasn't long before I had the real thing. With the proceeds
of a summer job in hand, I talked a neighbor man into hauling me (and his trailer) to a school in a nearby town. They were
tearing down the school and auctioning off two old, broken-down pianos. Long story short, I got one! It had many coats of
baby blue paint on it, most of the ivories were missing and it was in a general state of disrepair. But it was mine. I took
piano lessons for a couple years then began exploring other keyboards, especially synthesizers.
In middle school and high school all my electives were music courses; Concert Band, Jazz Band, Marching Band, Music Theory,
etc. I learned various instruments in those years (flute, trumpet, bass guitar) but always came back to my first love, the
keys.
I played in a series of garage bands and quickly graduated to working bands. Eventually, I quit high school to go on tour
(with Dad's blessing--love you, Dad). I have since earned my GED. I played professionally, gigging throughout California,
Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Montana from about age 17 to 21.
I've continued to play, write, record and perform throughout my adult life. I never tire of creating music. I completed and
released my first solo CD in 2008 and another in 2009. I'm currently playing in the Rock/Latin/Christian band BURNING NOPAL.
