Koto is a precious little creature. She has an adorable face, but she has what is called a "pug" nose (that's actually what makes her cute!) Unfortunately, this is considered a hereditary abnormality in the show circuit, so she has only been to one show in her life, Ferret Expo '96. She did win three ribbons there, however! She placed 7th in the best dressed ferret contest, when she dressed as a crayon; she placed 6th in the Best Pet competition, which was a special show class designed to teach people about show standards and good maintenance of ferrets; and she placed 4th in the Snow Queen competiton (sort of like a beauty pageant for ferrets).

Koto came to me as a Rescue ferret with her brother Poto. Poto died as a result of a horrible accident, by chewing an electrical wire (there's a BIG safety message here). After Poto's death, Koto became depressed and withdrawn. She lost 75% of her body weight in a week's time, and stopped eating, playing, and drinking. I took her under my wing, and showered her with nonstop affection, kisses, and TLC. In nearly as short of a time as she'd wasted away, she rebounded and recovered completely. She became quite attached to me, and I to her, and I was afraid that another major life change would completely destroy her little system, so I took her off of the adoption list. Every day she tells me how much she appreciated that by giving me kiss after kiss. I don't think I have another ferret who loves me quite the way that she does, and she is certainly cherished!

We had some fun taking Christmas photos, as this one shows. Koto loves Christmas, getting her stocking and the goodies inside. Guests find Christmastime in our home a bit eccentric, as we hang stockings on our mantle for all of our pets, and each shelter ferret gets his or her own stocking, too. We don't care how silly it looks, however; the joy and happy dooks and purrs we get when our fur-family get their presents is well worth it. For this photo, I stuck a santa-hatted Koto in a stocking; she ducked down into the stocking, and when she popped up, she threw her head back and the pom-pom on the hat smacked her right in the nose!

If Koto had to pick one thing in the world she couldn't live without, it would probably be her Nutri-Cal. We have a routine. Every day, after her runtime, I pick her tiny little body up, she gives me kisses, and I plop her into her furry hammock. She runs over to her "Nutrical Dish" and I reach in and put a little dollup of the treat in the dish. She eagerly laps it up, then contentedly returns to her hammock and snuggles up for a snooze.

Koto says "thanks" for taking the time to read about her!
