FELT HATS

Cavalier Hat
Although we call this a cavalier hat, it was actually made popular during the 16th century by the Lansquenets, German mercenary soldiers, who decorated them with cuts and slashes braids and feathers..lots of feathers! Of course, it was worn much earlier in other countries as well, but not as flamboyantly. This hat is a hat blank ready for you to embellish to your personal taste. Pin and Feather not included. (See the Miscellaneous section for feathers & pin)

Another style of the slashed and tied hat popular during the Renaissance. This one has multiple slashes laced together and tied with a bow. Paintings show the bow can be worn in the front or in the back. The side "tabs" can be rolled under for a different look.

4-Sided Slashed Hat

Many small felt hats with various styles of slashed brims and ties were worn in England, Flanders, Spain, France and Italy as early as the 14th century and grew to popularity during the Renaissance. This small felt hat appears 4-sided because of the 4 slashes. Can be laced to the outside and aglets (metal tips) added to the laces for another stylish look worn among the nobility.
