Cost

Maintaining the original double-hung window offers the better value compared to replacement windows.  The cost of quality maintenance and repair is lower than replacement.  Parts of the original windows will always be available from millwork suppliers, while many replacement windows fail after only a few years and are remarkably difficult to remedy when the manufacturer no longer produces that product and is more interested in selling a new product.
