Subject: Joan Priestly: Nutritional regimen

Dr. Joan C. Priestley, MD uses a nutritional therapy. Her patients have
very good statistics where disease progression and mortality are
concerned. On the whole they are above the national average of those who
have pursued AZT protocols.

In 1992 she made a report to the Eighth International Conference on AIDS
in Amsterdam of a group (291) of her patients she had records on.The
record period ranged from 6 to 48 months, average 19 months.

Of interest was that 76.8% of subjects had p24 antigen levels decrease or
remain negative. 5 of them were converted from positive to negative.

 * 71.8% of the subjects either maintained a stable body weight
or gained weight

* 26.7% (57 subjects) had CD4 counts remain stable or increase. Of those
whose T cells increased, the average increase was 109.

Most significant findings:

1) Maintenance of stable body weight in AIDS patients appears
to be significantly influenced by the use of intensive
nutritional therapy.

2) Even once CD4 count dropped below 50, the majority of patients (72.3%)
on this protocol survived at least another year. 17.2% survived at least
TWO years after CD4 dropped below 50.

3) Survival rates appear to be higher among the group who had
never taken AZT.
