MORALITY POEMS

Text Box: Missed

by Ken Shiovitz

1. Cloudy gray mist, nearly impervious
To yellow fog-lights, only partially covered
The, pick whom you follow, smelling
Like the taste of metal, until
Counter-measures of whipped cream and
Three flavors of candied syrup were applied.

2. Hidden inside an abandoned mine car,
Edges flaking rust alongside an old shovel,
Pick breathed imperceptibly to avoid detection.
Above the mine, a drab bar-feathered owl, moaned
“Whoooooooom,” subtly lowering amplitude at the finish.
Ripe with rotting grasses, in field below mine’s gape,
You, white with woolen sheen, grazed nervously.

3. Directly before the blue-gray of a basalt pillar, stood
Mohandas Gandhi, Adolf Hitler, Jimmy Carter, and Jessie James.
Each called out “Follow Me,” repeatedly, in enticing voices.
So the people all followed Adolf, because
He was handing out free T-shirts that read,
“Third Reich Rocks.”
