The Meeting
by Ken Shiovitz
Even if we'd never met
I’d know you for a friend.
The light behind your tired eyes
Mine own vision doth extend.
The uniform you’ve chosen
Elicits mirth from seers.
You wear it for survival;
It's brought you extra years.
Like a moving van in mountains,
And with a car in tow,
Your worldly goods thus gathered,
Risk every stop and go.
For the decades you’ve invested
That made you what you were,
Now appear to be so distant,
Your goals became obscure.
And the reasons for those changes,
Which you clearly take to heart,
Are not flaws or even blemishes,
Just attempts to do your part.
Tho’ advancement from your efforts
The world won't recollect,
When we met I surely knew you,
And you have my respect.
So let your mind rest easy,
And be kind to those you should,
And await the coming moment,
To affect the world for good. |
