Sore Ankles (Corpatation)
by Ken Shiovitz
There are many pretty places
Where you can work and laugh,
And hang around ‘til after hours,
Still joking with the staff.
There are many happy couples,
And friends with whom you’re loose,
And serious sorts that take cavorts In
stride as they produce. So
you arrive in a pretty place,
And start to laugh and work.
The halls and stalls are radiant,
Co-workers just have quirks.
But then one day you notice:
One of them is now a source.
That nibbling at your ankles
Has become a steady force.
They may be high or lower,
And say you’re in the way, Or
an approximate co-equal
That pursues a raise in pay.
But the source is really thinking,
“You’re either with me or against.
'With’ means I dominate you."
You’d better raise defense.
Some gnaws are truly gentle,
And some will wear you down,
But some may near destroy you;
It’s these you go around. A
job can mean survival If
you don’t have enough. So
leave or fight you question,
Either choice can be as rough.
