To
Cathy by Ken Shiovitz Know that your boat is still and ever able to sail. Know that the drag you feel is no drift net that will fray, Nor is it an anchor to hold
you in place. Instead, I am your weighted keel, A part of you, Imparting stability against
gentle breezes or howling winds. Know that the precious cargo of two that you carry Are water-tight. They may sail alone in all but the worst of gales, And sail together even then. Know that your own structure has been ever strengthened: Your hull
is buttressed. Your sails
are strong. Know that your skills have been ever honed. You can
navigate anywhere. Know that you may sail near those that respect nothing, Or you may
sail with those that will respect you Just for the effort. Shipboard celebrations in the lull before the gale Are but
temporary substitutes for satisfaction. Know that you are my keel. Know that because of you I have sailed where few have
ventured, Fewer returned. Know that your hopes are not ending, but only beginning. Know that like the keel beneath the water, I love
you deeply. |
