Buying
Time By Ken
Shiovitz 4/29/03 “Always make rock solid investments,” Said father at my adulthood, “Plan for the long term. Short trends can’t be trusted.” He spoke again, and I listened intently. “Don’t put your eggs in one basket,” He warned, “Diversify, diversify.” Armed with this advice, After years without excess, The moment arrived to test a small sum. “Solid as Concrete,” boasted the swampland brochure, “Foundation of America,” rambled the railroad report, “Gateway to the Future,” read the Tech public offering, Yet I demurred, for every stock had its risk, It seemed impossible to safely plan for the future, As I continued to age, to run out of time. “Aha,” the eureka moment exploded, “In time…..I shall invest, and just in time. For time will endure as no solid substance, But more so, will always be there for the taking, And diverse, why the combinations are endless, What could be better that the buying of time?” But the purchase potential was still filled with pitfalls, As when the executive could give me just a minute, Or the doctor offered one hour and replaced it with
another, And the airlines lost an entire night of my vacation, In fact, it appeared hopeless until I discovered A solitary non-solicitous soul. “How long will you love me?” as a wise shopper I asked. “Every second, every minute of eternity,” she answered. “No more risk than the swampland,” I appraised, Then replied while the offer still pended, “Sure, I’ll buy that!” |
