Silence and the Ion Wind

Los Angeles County Museum of Art, 1980

"The work proceeds in an axis through the rooms, where sound, and light intermingle....The axis begins with a doorway of light and continues through an aperture of lead to a gold accumulator inused with ion wind.

The first room, between the light door and the lead, is an acoustically active or reverbernt zone. The leaden portal functions as an acoustical lens to a zone of increasing silence where the Golden Room is approached through an ion wind. In the dark central area, the ion wind increases, till it reaches its greatest intensity in the Golden Room.

The Golden Room is an allusive structure for an elusive experience. Here is the opener of time. As you leave it, this room ties the axis in a circle returning your gaze to the door of light. "
