This is the Badge of the Clan MacDonald.
A message posted in Compuserve Roots Forum indicated that the McDonalds changed their names to McDaniel after a feud with the Campbell clan. I asked John Menzies of Aberdeenshire, Scotland if he had any information to confirm this. Here is his reply: The Massacre of Glencoe.
I haven't researched too far back in the McDaniel family. Josie Lee McDaniel was Clarence Mariet Taylor's mother. Here is her family tree, as far as I've taken it:
