KIMAGURE ORANGE ROAD
What can I say about this series that hasn't already been said. Written and drawn by Izumi Matsumoto during the period from 1984 to 1987 this manga has left a lasting mark on the manga and anime world.
Most people have at least heard of this series due to Animeigo's work on the OVAs and first movie, and the recent release of the second movie. However, the manga is in my opinion a more complete and interesting look at the story.
If you have seen the tv series, you will quickly discover that in the manga the character development is more complete, and that the character flaws are muted to make the characters more human. Kyosuke's indecisiveness, Madoka's whimsical nature and Hikaru's blind loyalty are all still there, but not quite as prominent.
This story also goes into much deeper detail about the relation of Kyosuke's powers to his family, Madoka's reputation among the other students, Kyosuke's continuing problems in school (where he nearly flunks every year.) Kyosuke's time and dimensional travel abilities. (He travels to several parallel universes.) and how other girls view Kyosuke. (There are a couple other girls who get involved, including one who tries several times to break up the relationship between Kyosuke and Madoka.)
I recommend this highly to anyone who is interested in reading a good manga series.
The manga has been translated. (I'll post a link to the translations when I find them.)
The series can be found in the form of 18 paperbacks (tankubons) or 10 hardbacks (widebans)
