So, who is QWP?
Let me tell you a little bit about us.
Woodworking in our family predates the Civil War.
My Grandfather was a carpenter, my Uncle is a carpenter and my Father has always
played with wood. His career was as an aerospace machinist and General Foreman in the aerospace industry.
Now that he is retired he has returned full time to his first love, (sawdust flows
in our veins) wood. He has brought to his woodworking the attention to detail and
accuracy he practiced in aerospace machining.
We started out marketing his scroll cut clocks. We still make and sell them today and if you
visit us at any of our shows you'll find quite a few in the booth. But the business grew
and we started adding items, scroll cut shelves, paper towel holders, napkin holders,
etc......
If you look at any of the show pictures we have online you'll see a wide variety of products,
some of it tole painted. No my Dad didn't paint those (although he is quite capable, he did
take classes, but as I've said - his first love is woodworking.) my wife Sally did. My Dad
is kind of sneaky, he recognized a talent in Sally and persuaded her to take classes. Now
you can't stop her. In fact she is looking forward to going back to Las Vegas this February
(and every February hereafter) for the Decorative Painting Convention.
So, where do I fit in? Well, once again, sneaky Dad had me try a hand at scrollsawing.
Hey this is pretty easy (I thought), I could get into this. Dad was looking to upgrade
his equipment (he had his heart set on another Hegner) so I bought his previously owned
Excalibur scrollsaw. So now I cut for Sally and I cut some for me. I'm getting better
at the fretwork end of it (but I have a long way to go to catch up with dear ol' Dad),
but practice makes perfect and I LOVE to practice. Nothing feels better than that first
sale of something you cut. (My first time was a Kokopelli Golfer Clock that I cut, I'll
put it up here soon.)
I also do design work for us. On our shelves pages, the Horse, Angel, and Teddy Bears
are my designs and I did the design work for the items on our CUSTOM DESIGN'S page.
But, there are more of us. Our youngest son, Joshua, comes out and helps out in the booth
at shows. He helps set-up and tear-down, he runs the credit card imprinter and handles
all the transactions, and keeps track of what has sold. We honestly could barely do this
without him (we know, school interferred with one show and Sally and I had to do it ALL
by ourselves).
There is also my Mom, Book-keeper, Pattern-keeper, Archivist and above all an inspiration.
And last but not least, (yup, one more) my kid brother, Greg. He provided the initial QWP web
site and hosts it still today. It is where all of our clocks and custom work can be seen.
Let me give him a plug here; If you need a web site, consulting, programming, etc... he is
a web GURU. Check him out at The AgentZ
