After picking up a mysterious traveler, the van he is driving breaks down. The old man follows the stranger, walking deep into the desert where he discovers that people and things are not as they appear on the surface. In an encounter with the mysteries that surround us all, the old man is given a great gift: his own innocence reborn. "the Tree" made its public debut at the 1998 Santora Film and Video Festival to rave reviews. It has since won a 1998 Aurora Awards' Gold Award for Short Subject (under 15 min.), a 1998 Telly Award for Musical Score, and received Honorable Mention at the 1998 Columbus International Film and Video festival's Chris Awards. "the Tree" was shot and edited entirely on Digital Video and produced on a desktop PC. This short picture was designed to be shown together with its award-winning brother film, "Breath of Life". The two short films are 'bookends' to one another, representing two perspectives on aging and spirituality. |
