our last riding action was a cattle drive on the
Teichalm near Passail in Eastern Styria.

This was the first cattle drive by horses in Austria!!!

We attached a photo.

We were a group of 10—14 riders and met twice on the Teichalm before we showed
our cattle working by horse. Reinhard was our trainer and he did a good job. All
what he learnt in Arkansas he taught his students now. The cattle have never
seen a horse before and some of the horses have never seen a cow before. So it
was a new experience for all of them. But after a few training weekends the
riders, the horses and the cattle worked quite well in a team. Beginning of
September we showed cattle working by horse to an audience of 2000 people with
great success. This was an absolute new attraction in our area.

End of October we brought the cattle down to the valley in the winter stables.

And two hours after we had arrived a cattle baby was born! It is male - and
typically for male creatures it enjoyed having been rocked in mom's belly
instead of walking itself. We called him "Norman" (after the movie "City
Slickers").

We're looking forward to the next cattle drive next summer.
