A picture of Stoody Company employees in Whittier,
California, taken in 1936. Included are my father George Staley (Advertising Manager), my
grandfather Daniel Staley (Sales Manager), and my aunt Ruth Staley (secretary). My mother
also worked there for a short time in the early 1930's, but quit to raise me and my
sister. George Staley worked for Stoody Company for 60 years, from 1928 to 1988. He began
as a day laborer in the shop, and worked his way up to Advertising Manager,Vice President
of Marketing, Vice President of International Operations, Special Assistant to the
President, and finally Member of the Stoody Co. Board of Directors. The Staley Training
Center was dedicated in his honor in 1988. The name "George Stoody" for the
character played by Bob Newhart in the sitcom "George and Leo" was created by my
son Dan Staley, the Executive Co-Producer at Paramount Studios, as a tribute to his
grandfather.
