T A R T A N
For the first time in the history of the United States, the nation is observing TARTAN DAY. April 6th has been chosen as the day of the observance since it is the anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Arbroath at Arbroath Abbey in Scotland in 1320. The document included the lines: "For we fight not for glory, nor riches, nor honours, but for freedom alone, which no good man gives up except with his life.".
The observance of Tartan Day commemorates all that is best in Scottish History and culture as well as the great contributions that Scots and Scots-Americans have made to the history and development of the United States. In 1998, the United States Congress officially declared April 6th as Tartan Day.
