The largest man made body of water in the south and 5th largest in the U.S; a boundary lake between Texas and Louisiana on the Sabine River (31º10’ N, 93º34’ W), Occupying parts of 4 Texas counties and 2 Louisiana parishes, about 65 miles long, 1,200 miles of shoreline, 185,000 acres when at full pool level of 172 feet, mean sea level. It is the only public water conservation and hydroelectric project undertaken without federal participation in its permanent financing. A population of 300 pounds of game fish per acre and an annual fingerling restocking program make Toledo Bend one of the best fishing lakes in the country. The lake record for fly fishing is a 10 pound + striper caught on a deceiver pattern.
