Question: For someone who started out a brainless bimbo, Harley has become one of my favorite characters. Did you base her on a specific person, or did she just evolve as the episodes went along? DINI928: She was originally a one-shot character, but even then I was still basing her on my pal, Arleen Sorkin, who I've known since college. I saw her playing a clown-like character on DAYS OF OUR LIVES when she was a regular on that show and that sort of cemented Harley for me. There's a lot of Arleen in Harley. DCOMLeib: SHADES30 wants to know when the much anticipated "Harley and Ivy" Mini is due out. . . DINI928: When I'm done writing them. I'm ashamed to admit it, but I've gotten myself swamped, and Bruce refuses to start drawing until all the scripts are in. I'm halfway through the last one though, so it won't be too long. Early next year, I'm hoping. DCOMLeib: From NoLife51. . . Question: Where did the idea come from to give the Joker a female sidekick? DINI928: I needed the Joker to have an assistant/moll of some kind in the episode "Joker's Favor". The more I worked with the character, the more she seemed to take on a life of her own. Bruce Timm's great design was a BIG part of it. DCOMLeib: Here's one about a MAD LOVE sequel from Jokerette. . . Question: Hi, Paul! I love your work on both the show and comics. Will there be a MAD LOVE 2? Also, I heard word of a Harley & Ivy miniseries. What ever became of it? DINI928: Bruce and I have discussed a MAD LOVE sequel, but not until we're finished with HARLEY & IVY (it IS coming, trust me!). Question: I don't know if anyone's mentioned it yet, but I really enjoyed the Justice League special in, I think it was, Superman & Batman Magazine. Really fun. Any plans for more of DC's characters done "a la" Batman Adventures? DINI928: I've heard no promises to that effect, but only the folks at DC can confirm it for sure. There is a line of Batman and Superman picture books (think there's a Wonder Woman, too) done in that style. Also, Bruce Timm and I just finished a picture book adaption of "Harley's Holiday" which will be out next year. DCOMLeib: Copyright (c) 1995 DC COMICS
